31 Days of International Flavors for Nationwide Diet Month: Day 21

All month lengthy, we’re celebrating Nationwide Diet Month with vitamin consultants across the nation. At this time’s international taste comes from Katy Zanville.

Tahini

Tahini has culinary origins within the Center East, akin to Israel and Iraq, together with elements of Asia like China and Japan. Nutritionally, they provide a supply of unsaturated fats, thiamine, phosphorus, and zinc. It’s one among my favourite components to prepare dinner with. I like using tahini in recipes and snacks akin to hummus, yogurt dips, and even baked items like brownies and cookies. Tahini is just like different nut butters akin to almond or peanut butter however is comprised of crushed toasted floor hulled sesame seeds.  It gives a creamy, nutty consistency and may be eaten alone or integrated into dips and sauces the place it may be served alongside meat or greens.

Right here is my recipe for Spiced Lamb Meatballs with Tahini Yogurt Sauce. These lamb meatballs are richly flavored with cumin, coriander, and cinnamon and pair completely with a yogurt sauce swirled with tahini and lemon juice.
